Are you a fan of the single crochet stitch? This stitch is so simple and versatile. It’s easy to master, works well for a variety of projects and is a great stitch for beginners and advanced crocheters alike! If you want to find some unique patterns that are built up by this stitch, you’re in the right place!
What is the single crochet stitch?
The single crochet stitch is one of the simplest crochet stitches you can learn. It is often either the first or second stitch a person learns when starting to crochet (the other being double crochet).
The abbreviation for single crochet is sc. When you see “sc” in a pattern, get used to saying “single crochet” in your head because that’s always what it means!
How do you do a sc in crochet?
Making a single crochet stitch is very easy. Here are the written instructions: insert hook into next stitch or chain. Yarn over, pull up a loop. Yarn over, pull through both loops on hook.
And there is your finished sc! To see this in action, see the video below:
What can I crochet with single crochet?
You can make practically any project using the single crochet stitch! You can crochet a blanket entirely from the sc stitch (here’s a super chunky sc blanket pattern I designed).
You can also make scarves, bags, headbands, dishcloths, etc. Single crochet can be worked in rows or in the round; you’ll see patterns in this post using both techniques.
